So as some of you may know, I have joined the Art League of Alexandria, VA. The Art League has a gallery inside of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria. I currently have a painting "Rooted" hanging until next week. Here it is!

Fetus Fun

So here it is: "Can Not De-Fetus"...another long project in the making. This project stemmed from collecting the little plastic fetuses handed out at the NJ State Fair.
Add some expoy and imagination...and you got yourself some artwork.

A special thanks to John Lena for his plastic fetus donations.

Frankfort Art Walk-2010

I got a chance to show some of my work at the Frankfort Art Walk. Various downtown locations open their doors to artists to display their work...and the fine KY folk can see the galleries before going to a downtown concert. I have 3 pieces on display permanently at Buddy Pizza (which is on the art walk route), but also got hooked up with a vacant downtown storefront.  I showed some of my favorite recent pieces. Nobody bought...but that's o.k., because deep down I really like these and wasn't sure I was ready to see any of them go.  It was still great exposure! I got great feedback!  I will post pics from the show as soon as I get my computer back up and running. (The library computer wont let me post pictures...so sad)

A long work in progress

So it took many years of saving dum dum wrappers from dum dum lollipops...but here is the final result. "The Dum Dum Vase"  The core vase I actually made in college about 17 years ago. It was the only thing I kept from my Ceramics 1 class. ( I 86'd or lost the numerous ash trays I made) I have always liked the biomorphic shape of the vase, and originally it had a brown smoked finish on it. It sat for many years in my various apartments, usually hidden high in a dark corner.
I've never been a huge candy person, but went through a dum dum lollipop phase one Halloween. (I bought them to give away to the trick or treaters, but nobody came ;( )  So I tore through the dum dums myself. I really don't know why I started keeping the wrappers. I guess I figured they would eventually end up in one of my wacky creations.
Anyway, eventually the idea of the dum dum vase came to me, and many years later...it is done!

Hooray for dum dums!
